AMETEK Level Measurement Solutions (LMS) is pleased to announce that the E4 Modulevel® Liquid Level Displacer Transmitter is now Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2 Certified.
Building on years of successful installations and accumulated operating hours in demanding process applications, the E4 Modulevel has achieved SIL 2 certification based on real-world performance. This milestone reinforces the E4 as a trusted, field-proven solution for critical level measurement in Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
The E4 Modulevel combines proven buoyancy technology with modern microprocessor-based electronics, delivering stable, reliable performance across a wide range of process conditions, including turbulence, foam, boiling, and interface measurement.
E4T: Transmitter-only upgrade for legacy Modulevel installations
A key benefit of the E4 Modulevel platform is the Model E4T transmitter-only option, which allows customers to retrofit existing Modulevel displacer assemblies with the latest high-performance electronics without shutting down their process.
This provides a fast, cost-effective path to modernization and SIL compliance without replacing the entire instrument:
- Upgrade only the transmitter while retaining the existing displacer assembly to reduce cost and downtime compared to full instrument replacement
- Intuitive local user interface and updated HART 7 digital communications platform
- Enhanced diagnostics capabilities with graphical DTM for use with PACTware and NAMUR NE 107 diagnostics coverage
For customers looking to bring legacy installations up to today’s safety standards, the E4T is a compelling solution.
Watch the E4T retrofit video to see how easily existing installations can be upgraded.

E4 Modulevel Liquid Level Displacer Transmitter
As a reminder, many of our existing level transmitters and switches are considered SIL suitable with an FMEDA report or a Declaration of Conformity, which may be acceptable for most applications. However, Emergency Shutdown (ESD) safety loops that are part of a Safety Instrumented System (SIS) may require Systematic Capability achieved through the certification process.
We look forward to the new opportunities that having a certified device will create across industries requiring enhanced safety and reliability. If there are any questions related to E4 SIL certification, please reach out to us.
