TR02E Series
Loop-powered float level transmitter for hazardous locations

The vertically-mounted TR02E Loop-Powered Level Transmitter for Hazardous Locations is equipped with an integral signal conditioner and provides a reliable 4-20 mA proportional electronic output in tank levels up to 15 feet. It is easily adaptable to programmable controllers, meters and other digital receivers for accurate and continuous measurement in many liquid level applications. The TR02E is FM-approved with an explosion-proof rating for Class I, Div I, Groups A, B, C & D and an dust ignition-proof rating for Class II/III, Div I, Groups E, F & G hazardous (classified) locations, indoor/outdoor (Type 4, 4X). Float materials are available in stainless steel with a selection of mounting types. Additional options include high-level and low-level alarms as well as SPST 100 VA or SPDT 30 VA switch contacts. Display outputs also available.

Technology

Float level transmitter

All float-operated liquid level switches operate on the buoyancy principle: “the buoyant force acting on an object is equal to the mass of liquid displaced by the object”. As a result, the partially submerged float moves with the level of the liquid in the vessel.

The TR420 Continuous Output Transmitter employs a series of magnetic reed switches and corresponding resistors inside the vertical sensor stem that are actuated by an internal magnet within the moving float. Multiple segments are plugged together in order to achieve a probe at the desired length.

The resultant probe segments form a resistive daisy chain (series circuit). The segments are configured as a variable resistor where the magnetic reed switches are the resistance values in the circuit. As each switch closes, the resistances vary in proportion to the corresponding switch position. The signal is electronically conditioned through the transmitter control board to provide the proportional output in mA or volts DC (depending on the model selected).
