Chlorine Dioxide Generators

Due to health, safety and environmental concerns about dioxins and furans, the once prevalent use of elemental chlorine as a pulp bleach agent has given way to alternate technologies. Today, Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) technologies are used for about 95% of bleached pulp production. A generator produces CLO2 that is mixed with water for bleaching.

Challenge

Gaseous chlorine dioxide is conveyed to an absorber tower where it is dissolved in chilled water to yield the aqueous chlorine dioxide bleach solution. Maintaining continuous level in the generator is critical because the chemical material balance in and out of the generator is essential. Malfunctioning controls can create a "White Out" where bleach production ceases and a shutdown ensues.

E4 Modulevel® liquid level transmitter

The E4 Modulevel® is a loop powered, two-wire instrument, utilizing simple buoyancy principles to detect and convert liquid level changes into a stable output signal. The linkage between the level sensing element and output electronics provides a purely mechanical design and construction. The vertical in-line design of the transmitter results in low instrument weight and simplified installation. The instrument comes in a variety of configurations and pressure ratings for varied applications.

The E4 Modulevel has microprocessor based electronics with 4–20 mA/HART® digital output. E4 supports the FDT/DTM standard and a PACTware™ PC software package allows for additional configuration, diagnostics and trending capabilities.

Eclipse® 706 guided wave radar transmitter

The Eclipse^® Model 706 high performance transmitter is a loop-powered, 24 VDC level transmitter that is based upon the proven technology of guided wave radar (GWR). The Tuffy^® II buoyancy level switches are float-actuated devices designed for horizontal mounting in a tank or vessel through threaded or flanged pipe connections. The compact size allows for installation in small vessels, while its many features provide a variety of application uses. The single switch mechanism is available in SPDT or DPDT forms on units designed for fixed or adjustable, narrow or wide differential and interface service levels.
